1. Building on Abundance in Indigenous Communities

This seven-week course teaches how to build Indigenous communities from an abundance perspective, beginning with the gifts, skills, and abilities that already exist in Indigenous communities. Hence, students will analyze their community’s current assets, possibilities, and difficulties. Also, students are exposed to tools, principles, and practices for internal community strengthening.

The course is taught by the Coady Institute. The school provides educational training for both emerging and seasoned community leaders with a desire to effect social change. Also, students who enroll in the course will investigate community values, vision, and the significance of overall wealth. In addition, the program examines case studies of communities that have effectively driven their development.

2. Community Support Worker Program

The 6-month Community Support Worker (CSW) Program at Focus College trains graduates to work closely with people who are navigating multiple, persistent challenges. This includes social and economic barriers, addiction, abuse, trauma, chronic health conditions, and others.

By and large, the 6-month curriculum empowers students with the knowledge and abilities required to work as successful Community Support Workers.

3. Community Living Skills (CLS) Facilitator Training

The Community Living Skills (CLS) Facilitator Training is a four weeks training that teaches participants the effective ways to lead a program. Also, the institution offers training to organizations and people who want to lead curriculum-based seminars for members of the community with disabilities.

Essentially, the program addresses how achieving health, wellness, and community participation can improve overall quality of life.

4. Partners in Living

Partners in Living is a self-study course designed to assist persons with developmental disabilities, their families, and friends in exploring four critical factors that, when combined, make a meaningful life. They are self-determination, family support, community living, and assistive technology.

The course teaches significant historical events in the lives of persons with developmental impairments, including essential legislation. Students also learn the importance of self-determination and the value of individual choice, person-centered planning, and future planning. In addition, students are taught the value of Family Support and how it has evolved, among others.

5. CLASS

CLASS seeks to promote community inclusion for people with disabilities. Hence, the organization provides specialized services ranging from classroom-based independent living skills training to community-based case management for social, recreational, and residential support.

CLASS was established in 1951 by a group of parents, medical personnel, educators, and other stakeholders. The organization began as a diagnostic clinic affiliated with Children’s Hospital. Presently, CLASS, directly and indirectly serves thousands of patients in numerous counties throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.
