Mental health is a crucial issue in Sudan; a country that has spent a long time in civil strife, political instabilities, and other factors that have affected the mental health of its citizens. Unfortunately, it is neglected, and many psychological well-being services are often underfunded.

Sudanese Charities Promoting Mental Health
Here are some of the mental health charities in Sudan that are renowned for their impactful services:
1. International Medical Corps (IMC)
The International Medical Corps focuses on MHPSS programming in the country and addresses MHPSS needs through integrated healthcare services. The nonprofit emphasises the importance of delivering psychological interventions through primary healthcare facilities. They also draw attention to the capacity building of local healthcare providers to deal with psychological well-being disorders. This strategy makes it possible for IMC to practice sustainable psychological well-being care. Also, since the capacity to implement the program is developed at the interior, the ownership of the program is therefore internal.
2. United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
UNICEF activities in Sudan address child protection issues and mental health services. In addition, the organisation prioritises protecting children’s and adolescents’ psychological well-being by offering shelter and counselling services accompanied by psychoeducation. Fundamentally, UNICEF’s programs focus on the youth as it seeks to assist them in improving their psychological well-being while coping with the effects of conflict as well as displacement.
3. World Health Organization (WHO) Sudan
WHO collaborates with the Sudanese Ministry of Health to build the capacity for psychological well-being services. Some of the measures advocated include the creation of mental health policies, strengthening the psychological well-being systems with the necessary modalities, and ensuring the appropriate capacity for Psychiatric and psychological well-being care among the practitioners. All these are crucial to WHO’s drive to enhance the overall psychological well-being of facilities and services in Sudan.
4. Save the Children Sudan
Save the Children provides mental health and psychosocial support to ensure child protection in its fight against child abuse. The organisation offer counselling, trauma care, temporary shelter, and other urgent needs to children affected by armed conflicts and/or forced migration. Thus, the activities of Save the Children guarantee that mental health care is provided to those who need it most, including children.
5. Ahfad University for Women
